Our Mission
Hi! My name is Mustafa, founder of flowstate.
I’m an ex-struggling student
turned academic tutor that helps
students ‘find their flow’.
Hello, my name is Mustafa. I used to be a struggling student. I have ADHD, and struggled to achieve well at school and University. I also spent hours and hours working hard to improve as a student. I was under immense pressure to get good grades. Yet no matter how hard I worked, my grades were low. I kept trying. I did everything in my power, I stayed up, I cut out “time-wasting” activities, and tried to focus. I even tied myself to my chair to force myself to sit and study even harder.
My hard work meant nothing.
What was especially painful for me were my essays. I could spend weeks on an essay, and it wouldn’t matter. Poor grade. The feedback wasn’t helpful either. I eventually realised that you can’t brute force academics. No matter what part, be it academics, essay writing, exams, or dissertations. Brute force alone simply doesn’t work. I had to find methods that worked for me. I had to play to my strenghts. I had to be time efficient.
I had to find my Flow.
Flash forward 10 years, and I now have two Master’s degrees and graduated top of my class in both my MA and LLM. I won awards. I even wrote essays that got 100%, and Professors encouraged me to publish my work.
Here’s the interesting part. Writing these essays? Being a successful student?
It didn’t take me much time at all.
That’s right. The point I was the most successful was the point where I was working the least. That’s because I found my flow.
My success is not the reason I became a full-time tutor. I became a tutor because while I figured things out, others didn’t. I saw everyone else suffer, putting in hours of their life for their academics. I saw students sacrifice time with their family and friends. I saw students sacrifice their mental and physical health.
Most of all, I saw their faces when they saw that their hard work didn’t lead to expected results. I even saw students repeat years and give up. But that’s not all. I saw them try to hire tutors or try to speak to teachers or professors. The help they received tried to teach them the curriculum or explain certain concepts. I knew that wouldn’t work. They were giving them a fish, instead of teaching them how to fish. They weren’t addressing the root problem. I then decided to take a risk, turned down various job opportunities, and focused on becoming a full-time tutor and advisor. I used the principles that worked for me, and tried to see if it would help others.
That was 2 years ago.
Since then, I’ve tutored hundreds of students across the globe on many sites. I’ve coached students across a large variety of subjects, and I started working on my mission. My mission is simple. I want to ensure every student on the planet finds their greatest, lifelong asset.
Their flow.
Yes, time is your greatest asset. But if you could make sure your skills are developed enough to achieve your goals AND get back your time, wouldn’t that be even more valuable? I work every day to achieve this mission. I want to ensure that there is an armada of efficient tutors that teach students ‘how to fish’. Once that’s done, and the Flowstate brand is large enough, I want to use the experience of the armada of tutors to achieve educational reform both in the UK and globally.
Currently, the Flowstate team is myself and a handful of significant partners, tutors and experts. Until the Flowstate brand grows, we work hard every day to ensure that students are empowered, and closer to finding their flow, one lesson at a time.
